The name is the Spanish word for the high tableland — the geographic feature that gives the Iberian Peninsula its spine and the American Southwest its iconic skyline. In Spanish architecture it also names the landing on a staircase: the flat platform between flights, where you stop and take stock of where you've been and where you're going.
Both meanings describe the same thing — a deliberate flat place above the climb. That's the altitude we work at, and the kind of system we leave behind.
